Your Guide to Corsicana's Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre is one of Corsicana's jewels. It not only sports beautiful architecture, but a lively entertainment history, and fantastic acts today, too.

Opening as a live vaudeville theatre in 1921, the Palace Theatre attracted numerous nationally-known acts to entertain the oil-rich citizens of Corsicana and surrounding communities. During the 1930's, the live-act theatre transitioned to a movie theatre, to satisfy the interest in that growing entertainment form. In the 1990's, a group of concerned citizens saved the theatre from demolition and initiated a complete renovation, opening it's doors again as a live-act venue.

Now, the Palace Theatre schedules an annual performance series, featuring famous personalities performing their craft through plays or musical concerts. There is something for everyone, from jazz to country music legends to dramatic and comedic plays. Attending a show there gives the opportunity to step back in time, to the class and vivaciousness of the roaring 20's. A night out at The Palace Theatre is a fun alternative to the typical date night.

The property is also available to rent for special events, be it concerts, business meetings, weddings, movie showings, private parties, or seminars. As a unique special events venue, the Palace Theatre could easily generate interest in your event, and is perfect for small groups, or those up to 500. They can even create specialized tickets for your event and provide staff to run the marquis-lit box office, adding that extra level of authenticity. Also, with the modern updates during the restoration, came a state of the art audio visual upgrade. Attending a show at the Palace Theatre is a treat for the senses.

Sometimes, things just come together. The Palace Theatre is a good mix of fun entertainment, in a beautifully restored historic building, outfitted with all of the modern amenities.

Sweet state
Not only is one of Texas' oldest and most famous bakeries nestled in East Texas, but so is a nationally-known candy factory. Collin St Bakery was founded in Corsicana and has locations throughout Texas. While you're in town, take a tour of the Russell Stover Candies factory, and nibble the samples.

Museums
A number of cultural and art museums exist across East Texas. The rich heritage is celebrated at civil war museums, pioneer museums, and oil museums. Explore the heavens at one of Texas' largest planetariums, located in Corsicana, or get in touch with your inner engineer at the Ennis Railroad and Cultural museum, to name a few.

Time at the lake is also conducive to camping, hiking, and nature scouting. The fun can turn into a great learning opportunity. With a number of substantial lakes across north and central Texas, such as Richland Chambers Reservoir, just take your pick.

Drive-in theatre
Located right off I-45, just north of Ennis, is one of Texas' only drive-in theatres, Galaxy Drive In. Take the whole gang for a fun family trip to the movies. Admission is paid per-person and all showings are a double feature. You can listen to the film over an FM radio station, or with window speakers. They can even show 3D movies!
